Our Inquiry this Term is the Commonwealth Games.

Our class decided to write our story about Clyde. We then drew all the pictures to go with our story.
Clyde

Captain Bristle was a sea Captain without a ship

His only ship was in a bottle

Captain Bristle was Scottish and
not having a ship made him sad.

He lived in a small house on top of a hill.
One night he as looking out his window,
he saw a shooting star. He wished for a ship.
The very next day he got a letter saying he was to command
his very own ship, H.M.S. Shipshape.

H.M.S. Shipshape

The next day he packed his gumboots, his coat, his hat,
his compass, his uniform and his telescope.
He wanted to sail but he would miss Scotland.
He had a good idea. He went to his garden shed and got
his spade and got his spade and his sack.
He walked up to the tallest hill and one by one he dug
a thistle and put it into a pot which he then put into his chest.

Next day he went to his ship.
He put his chest onto a hoist and it was lifted into the ship.
He studied his map and worked out
his trip around the Commonwealth Countries.

He sailed off and he stopped at every
Country and left a little piece of Scotland.
He got off his ship and went to the
countryside to plant one thistle at each place.

Captain Bristle returned to Scotland.
He sailed into the River Clyde.
H.M.S. Shipshape sailed into the dock.

Captain Bristle went home to his little house on the hill.
He opened his chest and found one last thistle.
He planted it in the centre of his lawn. He named it Clyde.

That night Clyde thought about all the people
and Countries he had seen on
his trip around the Commonwealth.
Then he saw a shooting star and he made a wish.
Then something magical happened.

Night after night, day after day he started t
o grow until he turned into a Mascot.
Clyde pulled and pulled until he came out of the soil.
Clyde had a very special job to do.

Clyde went and told everyone
about the Commonwealth games.

Our big question is
Who's a winner?

What we want the children to understand:
  • What the Commonwealth is.
  • To know some of the countries who compete and some of the sports that are part of the Commonwealth Games.
  • To find out the many ways one can be a winner!
What we want the children to experience:
  • A simulated Commonwealth Games

We are learning a lot about the Commonwealth games. Click on the link below to find out about the games.

Clyde is the official Mascot for the Commonwealth games.
You can read our shared story about Clyde in our classroom or by clicking on the link below.

Official Logo

The logo for the 2014 was developed by Marque Creative Ltd, who were appointed to the job in October 2009. The concept behind the logo is derived from time, data and measurement, with four distinctive parts.
The outer ring symbolises the fact that it is the 20th Commonwealth Games, the yellow ring which is 17/20th of the size of the outer red ring symbolises the 17 sports on the programme, the blue ring, which is 11/20th of the size of the circle represents the 11 days of the event, and the G in the centre represents Glasgow, the colour reflecting the Gaelic meaning of the city's name, "Dear green place".

Our Term 2 Inquiry is Recycling "Junk to Glamour"

We have learnt a lot about reusing, reducing and recycling.

We are busy making our outfits for the Wearable Arts which is on Thursday at 1.30.

In Ruma Ruru we have written a story based on the Lester and Clyde Book but we have a fun twist at the end when Robots come out to save the pond from the Water Witch.

Our Term 1 Inquiry is The Sea.

Who can live in the Sea?

·
We want the children to understand

            1. The impact that we have on the sea through our action
     2.  Living creatures adapt over time to survive in the Sea

Lachie researched about Whaling and found they are endangered from
countries who fish the whale for the blubber and meat.

Our Term 4 Inquiry is

Celebrations

We are looking at the ways individuals, families and communities celebrate as well as what is celebrated World Wide.

So far birthdays, marrages, funerals and Christmas are the big ones most people celebrate.
